The community in Bellanger not only sustained severe damage to their buildings and lost many lives in the January earthquake, but their only source of clean water, a hand-dug well, stop producing water. This left the community paying for small baggies or 5 gallon bottles of drinking water and using water from ditches or a nearby stream for all other needs like bathing and laundry.
Pastor Pierre LaMartine explained simply, “We need water. People are thirsty.” Thanks to a new HWP well, people not only have nearby access to free water at all times of the day, but they can also be sure that the water is safe.
