The small village of L’Acul de Leógane is just outside of Port-au-Prince, and the well sits on the site of a church and school. It is a wonderful thing to see children lined up to pump water from the well instead of having to buy little baggies of water from the street or go without (which is more common). This well was provided by donations made through Facebook–check out the blog for more.
The school at L’Acul de Leògane collapsed and the church building is now unsafe to enter because of earthquake damage. However, the HWP well is still working and providing fresh, clean water to a community that now has the arduous task of rebuilding. The well sits as a reminder that they are not alone in that process.
